Industrial Minerals
Non-metallic rock and mineral deposits may lack the 'glamour' of precious metals, and for that reason they are often ignored by exploration companies, but they have countless uses in our modern industrialised society and in many countries form a far greater percentage of total mineral production in terms of value than the generally higher priced metallic minerals. The term 'industrial minerals' encompasses a large variety of types of mineral type, from sand and gravel, limestone and brick clay to asbestos, graphite and fertilisers. This diversity is also reflected in the geology of the deposits, as they occur throughout the geological time scale in rocks of all modes of genesis. A C A Howe geologists have worked with many different types of industrial mineral deposit and can offer a wealth of experience in this often specialised field as these examples illustrate:

  • Identification, mapping, bulk sampling and test marketing of a selection of dimension stone products in Scotland

  • Geological assessment and reserve estimation of an underground silica sand mine in Scotland

  • Reserve estimation and process review of an asbestos mine in Greece

  • Geological, mining and metallurgical evaluation of an andalusite mine in South Africa

  • Target selection, mapping and drilling of potential high PSV rock aggregate deposit in Palaeozoic greywackes in the UK

  • Geological and economic review of a graphite deposit in Ontario, Canada

  • Evaluation of pegmatite deposits in Quebec, Ontario and Manitoba for lithium and beryllium

  • Geological evaluation and drilling of mica deposit in Ontario, Canada

  • Mapping and diamond drilling of a number of barite and fluorspar deposits in Carboniferous limestone's in UK

  • Investigation of Tertiary acid volcanicoes in Northern Ireland for perlite potential

  • Assessment of pumice deposits in Turkey
