Coal
Due to low prices on world markets, new mining developments in emerging nations and environmental concerns for cleaner energy sources, coal exploration and development in many of the major industrial nations is now at an all time low. Gas fired power stations are being built to replace ageing coal fired facilities and low sulphur coals are being imported from new mining developments in Australia, South Africa and the Far East. We feel that in the short term, interest in these new coal developments will intensify, but that the re-evaluation of known coal deposits in North America and Western Europe will become a necessity within a few years. In addition, there will be a substantial increase in the utilisation of methane from in-situ coal deposits.
